500 Words – East Lincs Coast Junior Writers Competition

New East Lincs Coast Junior Writers

An Open Competition for all Junior Writers ages 5-7 and 8 to 11.

Prizes for top 3 entries in each age category.

Posters and details sent out to all Primary Schools along the East Coast of Lincolnshire.

East Lincs Coast Junior Writers – Competition Rules

  • Entry to the competition is open to children aged 5 to 11 on 7th March 2017

  • Entry is in two age categories: (5-7), (8-11)

  • Entrants can submit a fictional short story or poem of no more than 500 words and incorporating one of the themes stated on the Competition Poster.

  • Entries must be submitted via email to elcjuiniorwriters@gmail.com and be in either Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (rtf) or Libre Office Write format.

  • Entries can be submitted with an illustration. Illustrations must be emailed in jpeg format.

  • Where younger children write a very short but illustrated story, this can be scanned, saved and sent in jpeg. Format. (We like illustrations!)

  • Entries should be accompanied with the child’s Name and Age – which will be published with the child’s work in our new magazine.

  • Entries must not include the personal details of any living persons or depict actual events.

  • Entrants must not include any personal details about themselves.

  • Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, or any other unsuitable material.

  • A parent, guardian or teacher must approve the entry according to the above conditions and submit their own name and a telephone number with the child’s submission. Contact will only be made in the event that a submission is not acceptable or that the entry has won a prize. No adult or child will be contacted for any other reason. Contact information will not be retained by the Organisers after the magazine has been published.

  • The copyright of individual entries will be acknowledged in the magazine publication.

  • Only the story title, entrant’s name and age will be published with an entry.

  • All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The Organisers accept no responsibility if entrants ignore these rules.

  • All entries will be judged by a panel of judges independent from the Organisers and any parent or school associated with the entrants.

  • Entries will be judged on the following criteria: Originality, Plot, Characterisation, Language and Enjoyment

  • The competition opens on Tuesday 7th March 2017 and closes on Friday 21st April 2017

  • Judging will take place between 22nd April and 6th May 2017 and the winners notified shortly afterwards.

  • A prize and certificate will be awarded to the top three entries in each age category according to the judges decision. The judges decision is final.

  • All entries will be published in a new magazine to be produced by the Organisers. Exact date of publication during 2017 to be notified.
